Pre Arrival and Visa Information
Prior to visiting Australia, you must ensure you hold a valid Australian visa. Student visas are temporary visas that allow people to come to Australia for a specified period to study at an Australian educational institution. You may also study for a limited time on a Visitor or Working Holiday Visa.

Airport pick up
Turner English can arrange an airport pickup service upon request to transfer you from the airport to your chosen destination. The driver from TOGOTO AUSTRALIA will greet you at the airport and take you to your homestay or other accommodation.

Accomodation
Student Services can help students to research and look for a place to stay.
Once a student has found a place they are happy with, Student Services can also make sure all students understand all the terms and conditions of the lease before you sign.
Deakin University on-campus accommodation is available for students. There is plenty of accommodation at Deakin University available for Turner English students, which is accessible by a short 10-minute tram ride. Homestay
Students may choose to live in a homestay throughout their time in Melbourne. All homestay families are different, ranging from married couples with children or a single retired person.
Homestay arrangements is an exciting and easy way to further English skills, broaden the experience of an authentic Melbourne experience and meet new people.
Important information for students regarding your homestay
– Your bedroom will have a bed, light, desk and chair. You may have to pay additional costs for extra items such as use of a heater.
– You will be expected to purchase your own toothpaste, shampoo and other toiletries. However, hosts will provide items such as toilet paper and linen.
– Your host is required to provide you with three meals per day. Breakfast and lunch are generally self-serve and the host will prepare dinner. If you are going to make alternative arrangements, please let your host know so they do not accommodate you for meals where you will not be eating there.
– Some hosts may offer to do your laundry, however it is not a requirement. There will be laundry facilities.
– You will be responsible for ensuring your bedroom is kept clean and orderly and should clean up any mess you make in common areas.
– Your host will appreciate small jobs such as washing dishes and taking the rubbish out.
– Telephone calls are not covered in the home stay charge. You will be responsible for any fees you incur as a result of using telephone facilities.
– Prior to bringing visitors to your homestay, please discuss with your host first.
In regards to security, most homes in Australia do not have locks on bedroom doors. If you plan to be away from your homestay later than usual or overnight, please notify your host as if you are unable to be located after 24 hours we will be required to notify the police for your safety.
– If you have expensive personal items such as a laptop or camera, it is recommended that you apply for personal property insurance which will protect you against theft or loss. Your homestay hosts insurance does not cover you while staying in their home.
– Smoking is generally not permitted inside homestay households, however this rule is at the discretion of your host. It is commonly acceptable to smoke outside of the property. If you are a smoker, discuss this with your host upon arrival.
Fees
– The homestay placement fee is $205, and is non-refundable. This must be paid by the student prior to arrival.
– The homestay fee is $280 per week. Students will be required to pay this directly to their homestay host.
– Please note – Fees are correct at the time of printing but may change without notice.
Cancellation
– A student must provide written notification at least 48 hours prior to arrival in order to cancel your home stay. If a notification is not received, a fee of $205 in addition to the non-refundable $205 placement fee will be required.
Payment
– Students must pay their host two weeks in advance. The first payment is due immediately upon arrival and students should obtain a receipt for their own records. It is recommended that both the student and your host sign the receipt and that there is a clear record kept of all payments.
Length of stay
– The minimum homestay is two weeks and this is non-refundable. It is up to the host to specify the period of stay and depending on individual circumstances, the student may be able to negotiate this with the host.
Leaving your homestay
– One-week notice of moving out is required in writing prior to leaving. If a student decides to leave prior to this, they will still be required to pay the fee of $280 per week without any refund.
Activities
Career Planning and Job Search

Medical
Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
DIBP requires all international students to have OSHC. OSHC is typically valid for one year and it is the student’s responsibility to renew their OSHC for the duration of their study with Turner English.
Turner English prefers the provider BUPA, however if a student has paid OSHC with tuition fees then they will be automatically insured with BUPA.
